Be part of a dynamic GPL (Global Packaging and Labeling) organization that supports new product packaging development for Coronary products. The incumbent will design and develop novel sterile medical device packaging solutions and will participate in GPL strategy projects. The role will participate in high visibility teams comprised of RD, Operations, Regulatory, Quality, Supply Chain, Packaging and Labeling and other functions to ensure robust packaging development to support commercialization of products across various manufacturing sites.

As a Senior Packaging Engineer, you will be involved in all aspects of design, development and testing of packages, packaging materials, packaging systems, transportation and handling systems for medical devices. Ensures that packaging and labeling layouts and processes are error-free, operator-friendly, and incorporate LEAN manufacturing concepts.
A Day in the Life
o Responsible for the development and implementation of improved packaging on existing and new medical products and devices.
o Responsible for the evaluation of materials, design, and configuration of primary, secondary, and other packaging to optimize customer benefit and the supply chain requirements
o Perform project activities per FDA/ISO guidelines and Medtronic Quality System Policies and procedures.
o Provide engineering support to Operations on packaging issues related to package design or packaging process
o Develop packaging and labeling specifications and related change control documentation
o Lead the improvement and standardization of packaging on existing products with focus on performance and cost effectiveness.
o Proven project management skills are required. Will work closely with RD and manufacturing plants to implement new or improved packaging. The ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and teams to meet project milestones and timelines is required.
o Ability to evaluate shipping, warehousing, and supply chain considerations for packaging, recommend improvements and implement the most efficient packaging solutions, considering cost, waste, damage, customer needs, etc.
o Develop packaging testing protocols/reports for new package designs and package materials.
o Perform other related tasks and special projects as needed.
o Bachelor's degree in packaging or related engineering discipline.
o Working knowledge of packaging and labeling design/test methods, verification/validation, various statistical tools, vendor and internal auditing, and protocol/report preparation.
o Working knowledge of QSRs and ISO requirements.
o 4+ years packaging engineering, or related field, experience in a GMP environment.
o PC skills, word processing, spreadsheets, project management, etc.
Nice to Have
o IoPP Certified Packaging Professional (CPP)
o 7+ years packaging engineering experience in a GMP, disposable medical device environment.
o Experience with single use and terminally sterilized medical devices.
o AutoCAD/Solidworks CAD software knowledge and experience.
o Self-starter with ability to work both independently and in a team effectively across the organization.
o Experience working in a team environment.
o Effective verbal and written communication, analytical, influencing and interpersonal skills.
o Must be able to communicate at all levels and across company lines.
