The partnership between Global Product and Technology is critical to this transformation and the definition, approval, and measurement of business value is core to its success. The Director, Performance Improvement will be responsible for modifying our product development processes to drive simpler, more efficient, and more effective delivery of business value through programs within Pearson. Included in this role is the design, adoption, monitoring, and impact of the delivery excellence / product development metrics for SAFe program delivery across the product and technology teams from integrated planning through execution.

Role Overview and Purpose:

The Director, Performance Improvement is accountable for enhancing Pearson's collective ability to optimally deliver new products and product enhancements to our customers. The role owns the design, creation, and operation of the SAFe Community of Practice (CoP) across the set of professional roles (e.g. product management, project management, user experience, etc.) that deliver products to market across the Global Product & Technology teams. Additionally, the role oversees the training and enablement of SAFe across Pearson globally. Finally, this role serves as the owner of "critical situations" where product delivery programs and/or SAFe implementation sites require intervention from outside of the program or team for our mission critical programs. All of these services are aimed at maximizing Pearson's achievement of business value within the VRO portfolio of programs.

Director, Performance Improvement Impacts

+ Works with senior leaders to drive enablement, measurement, and course corrections with our mission critical programs under the management of the VRO

+ Provides Information analysis to distill key themes for relevant stakeholders to aid with decision making with respect to enablement, measurement, and course corrections of product development

+ Leads and influences without authority based on data and a goal to optimize the pan-Pearson product development environment

+ High focus on communication and how change is planned, implemented and communicated

+ Manages compliance to the SAFe methods, techniques, and tools

+ Works to best practice standards (e.g. SAFe)for measuring KPI's, reporting project and program delivery and tracking benefits

+ Success measured by being regarded as an honest broker with the sole purpose of helping Pearson meet its strategic objectives, initially scoped to product development.

Accountable for:

+ _Enablement:_ Works closely with the Director, Business Value Realization to understand the product development skills, techniques, tools, and culture required to maximize the delivery of business value within the VRO portfolio

+ Assesses the evaluates the critical delivery path and skills required for the VRO programs, as a whole

+ Understands the needs and gaps in skills, techniques, tools, and culture for optimal product development

+ Offers SAFe trainings (and others, as deemed appropriate) to surgically upskill Pearson resources for the purposes of strengthening program delivery in the VRO portfolio.

+ Owns and leads the SAFe CoP as a high engagement team with a value creation focus on the VRO portfolio of programs.

+ _Measurement:_ By managing, modifying, and reporting delivery excellence / product development metrics against annual improvement targets:

+ delivery excellence / product development Metrics including analytics, KPIs, reporting and tracking

+ Working with senior leaders, drive team improvement decisions based on current performance with appropriate escalation and visibility

+ Enables efficient and effective escalations and course corrections to the VRO portfolio

+ Develop operating cadence required to achieve delivery excellence / product development metrics adoption such that teams participating in the metrics use them as a self-help for continuous improvement

+ May offer independent assurance of the program status based on delivery excellence / product development metrics results

+ Establish processes to drive continued delivery excellence / product development improvements after go-live date

+ _Course Corrections -_ _Interventions at the Program level to return the Product Development to a healthy and successful path._

+ _Serve as the lead for "critical situations" based on actual performance of programs in the VRO portfolio (e.g. deeply troubled programs)_

+ Conduct on-site workshops, interviews, and meetings to assess, design, approve, and deliver a Program Performance Improvement Plan

+ Monitor and adjust Program Performance Improvement Plans through to completion

+ Use "critical situations" as another channel into pan-Pearson delivery excellence / product development improvement potential

+ Bachelor's degree in Technology or Business Administration; MBA or MS highly preferred.
